TCMFF Picks

YOU GUYS.

I have waited 10 years for this moment. Your girl has dreamed of attending the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival in Hollywood California since they announced the first one TEN YEARS AGO. And she's finally going!

This is a huge deal for me, and I would really appreciate it if you all could treat this like an engagement or baby announcement, because this is the equivalent.

All that being said, I've finally had some time to finalize my tentative (hehe) schedule for it. Let me tell y'all something...this was stressful! With it being my first time I really want to make sure I get to experience everything I've dreamed of. Those include a nitrate screening, a poolside screening, a dress up party, and seeing some mega celebrities. I feel like I need all of these to happen to ensure I have the ultimate TCMFF first timers experience. But I know that no matter what, I'm going to cry my eyes out and have the time of my life!

So here we go:

Tuesday, April 9

I actually am getting to LA early so I can attend the Fashion in Film talk with Kimberly Truhler at the Women's Club of Hollywood this day. I've been following Kimberly for years, so getting to see this presentation and check out the museum is going to be another dream come true.

Wednesday, April 10

Still a day before the Festival starts. I have a group lunch scheduled with some amazing women also attending the fest, as well as a couple of other meetups. I'm looking into some museums, and may just roam around and be a super tourist. We'll see!

Thursday, April 11

Day 1!!!!!!!

I'm definitely attending the First Timers Meet-up that morning and then the Welcome Party at 5:00! There's an Ocean's 11 themed cocktail party before the screening of the film at 7:30 poolside, so I'll be going in my mid-century best! Also Angie Dickinson is going to be there! This is going to be a really fun event!

I'm going to try and make it to the screening of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg after, but I'm not sure how close they are to each other or if I'll be able to get in.

Friday, April 12

The Postman Always Rings Twice or Merrily We Go to Hell.

Sleeping Beauty. This was my favorite Disney film growing up and Briar Rose is my favorite princess. There is no way I'm missing my chance to see this on the big screen!

My Favorite Wife

Steel Magnolias because Shirley McClain in person (the big star experience I need!) and it's a film with Dolly Parton. When you're a girl who grows up in the south this film is on repeat your entire childhood. I would love to experience this with an audience!

The Opposite Sex is screening poolside and starts right when Steel Magnolias ends, so I'm a bit nervous about getting in. I'm dying to see this film along with Dennis Miller and Illeana Douglas.

Saturday, April 13

Double Wedding

Kind Hearts & Coronets

Love Affair

Nashville. Ya girl deserves to get into this screening and see Jeff Goldblum. If I have to give up the three previous films to be in line early enough to make this happen and see this awesome movie on the big screen, I WILL. (By the way, did you know I was born in Nashville, TN? Fun fact of the day!)

Samson & Delilah on nitrate (remember a nitrate screening is a must for this first timer!)

Sunday, April 14

The final day. :(

Mad Love. This movie looks crazy and amazing and it's being presented by Bill Hader. My love for him runs deep and seeing him at TCMFF is another big dream of mine. Is there anything I haven't dreamed of in regards to this fest? No. Don't judge me.

I'll actually be skipping all of the afternoon films to attend Dapper Day at Disneyland! I have to get a pic in front of the castle. Please see above when I said Sleeping Beauty is my favorite...

BUT! I'll be back to see The Dolly Sisters on nitrate because BETTY GRABLE.

Then of course I'll pop into the Closing Night Party for drinks and to say goodbye to all of the new friends I know I'm going to make.

So there you have it! A lot of tips I've been getting are not to worry about sticking to your schedule. But I do want to try and make as many of these as possible. I can't wait to experience this festival for the first time, I know that it's going to be magical!
